BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Jackson man is behind bars after being arrested for allegedly performing a drive-by shooting on Wednesday.
Tavares Smith, 20, was arrested after police say he fired at least five shots at a home on Angus Drive in Zachary. Officers learned during an investigation that the house was occupied by four people, a female victim, her spouse, and their two children, ages 4 and 10. Police say that the victim was hit in the back by a bullet, but was treated by EMS responders.
Police say that the victim met Smith on social media about one month ago during a time where she was separated from her spouse. Five days prior to the shooting, the victim says that she told Smith that she did not want to continue talking to him because she and her spouse got back together.
The victim says that Smith was upset at this, and began to make threats on the victim's life.
Smith was charged with four counts of attempted 1st degree murder.
