BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Better preparation for new teachers was the issue at hand for a panel of educators from almost every grade level in Louisiana.
The group met Friday morning. Louisiana Superintendent of Education John White was among those in attendance. Members of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), principals, veteran teachers and legislators were also involved.
In all, organizers said the meeting was a success.
"I think what we heard was that there are a lot of places where school systems and teacher preparation programs are innovating to give teachers more time to practice, more time to learn on the job before they start their first year of teaching," said Hannah Dietsch with the Louisiana Department of Education.
The panel plans to meet again next week.
