BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police have made an arrest in a deadly shooting and have released the name of the victim.
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Jaime Mejia, 34, is charged with second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon in the shooting death of Lenroy Marshall, 46. Bond was set at $265,000.
The shooting happened on Lorna Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the probable cause report, Marshall had approached Mejia, who was standing outside, and asked for a ride. The report stated Mejia recognized Marshall as someone who had robbed him in the past.
Officers said Mejia pulled out a gun, fired a shot at the ground and Marshall ran away. Detectives said Mejia chased Marshall across the street and fired four more shots. Authorities said Marshall was hit in the back by one bullet and died shortly after.
According to police, witnesses stated Marshall was unarmed.
The investigation is ongoing.
