NEW ORLEANS (WAFB) - NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that the
Thomas signed with the Saints in 2007 as an undrafted free agent. In 2014, he spent much of the time on the sidelines, slowed by nagging injuries.
The popular running back ranks fourth on the franchise's all-time rushing leaders list.
The Saints will save $1.7 million with the release of Thomas.
Rapoport also reported on Wednesday the the Saints are looking to trade veteran linebacker Curtis Lofton.
Lofton had 144 tackles in 2014, playing all 16 games.
Lofton will count $9.25 million against the Saints' salary cap this season. The team is currently more than $21 million over the salary cap.
