ST. GABRIEL, LA (WAFB) -

St. Gabriel is set to get a nearly $2 million police station.

Crews will build the police station across the street from the Elayn Hunt Correctional Facility. The state of the art facility will not only be a major upgrade for St. Gabriel officers, but Chief Kevin Ambeau said it will also help them better serve the community.

"It's gonna make my guys jobs a lot easier to protect the people who live here, go to school here, work here everyday. We don't have a very high crime rate in St. Gabriel and it's something I brag about all the time and it's just going to make it better for us," said Ambeau.

Officials are hoping construction on the new facility will be complete by the end of the year.
