DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities reported the rewards for information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person responsible for a double murder in Donaldsonville have increased to a total of $25,000.
Crime Stoppers said it is offering a reward up to $5,000 and a separate and independent one is worth $20,000 in connection with the shooting deaths of Chad Nichols, 37, and Benny Booker, 29, both of Donaldsonville.
Maj. Kevin Hanna with the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said the gun used in the shooting is the same one used in four separate shootings in New Orleans between 2011 and 2013.
Nichols was found dead in his yard on Latino Street after the shooting and Booker was found shot in the street. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Deputies said heroin was found inside Nichols' home.
"Both Nichols and Booker may have been robbed during a drug deal gone bad," Chief Deputy Tony Bacala with APSO said in a written release.
Detectives said Booker's vehicle was stolen during the shooting and deputies are scanning surveillance video to see where the 2007 white Dodge Magnum may be. It has license plate YPC 682. A second car, which appears to be a 2006-2011 white BMW 3-series was captured on surveillance video traveling with the Dodge Magnum.
The Magnum was last seen heading towards New Orleans on I-10 near the LaPlace exit about 30 minutes after the murders. The BMW has a temporary tag in the back window and a dealership logo tag where the license plate is usually displayed. The dealership logo tag is described as possibly having blue lettering and a design somewhat similar to an American flag.
Anyone with any information about the shootings or the cars is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
