BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Those who knew the man who was shot and killed early Sunday morning described him as hardworking and respectful.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said Eddie Simon Jr., 24, was shot in the head in front of a house on 73rd Avenue around 1:45 a.m.
A neighbor said Simon worked hard and lived with his grandmother. He added he was shocked to learn of the shooting.
"Wasn't a rowdy person; he was a very nice guy, a respectful young man," said Dennis Green. "He and my son were friends, good friends. I couldn't understand why, what happened last night."
Investigators said the shooter remains on the loose. They said Simon was standing in the front yard when the gunman walked up to him and started shooting.
Green added he saw a group of men drive off in a white four-door car. Simon was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Documents show this was the first murder in Baton Rouge in more than a month.
