RAPIDES PARISH, LA (WAFB) - A large amount of mud in the road is suspected to be the cause of a school bus crash in Rapides Parish that injured 11 children and the driver.
Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to the crash around 6:15 a.m. on LA Hwy 121 south of LA Hwy 496.
The bus was northbound on LA Hwy 121 when the driver drove up on a large amount of mud in the roadway. He lost control of the school bus and went off the left side of the roadway before the school bus overturned on its side.
All 11 children and the driver received minor to moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals. The children ranged in age from five to 15.
The crash remains under investigation.
DOTD and the Cotile Fire Department assisted in the removal of the mud from the roadway.
