BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A new report showed Baton Rouge is doing well in the area of regional employment.
Gallup ranked Baton Rouge at No. 9 on its list of 10 best regions in America based on payroll to population ratio.
It identifies a population's percentage of workers employed for at least 30 hours per week.
The payroll to population ratio for Baton Rouge was 50.5 percent.
"With the Capital Region at an all-time high with regard to employment, we're pleased but not surprised to have made this prestigious list," Adam Knapp, president and CEO of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber (BRAC), said in a written release. "Many consultants and economic developers believe the pay to population indicator to be more accurate than the unemployment rate in assessing the health of total employment."
Des Moines, Iowa finished in the top spot. Baton Rouge finished just ahead of Austin, Texas.
Madison, Wisconsin; Ogden-Clearfield, Utah; Washington, DC-Arlington-Alexandria, Virginia/Maryland/West Virginia; Little Rock-N. Little Rock-Conway, Arkansas; Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers, Arkansas/Missouri; Omaha-Council Bluffs, Nebraska/Iowa and Salt Lake City, Utah ranked No. 2 through No. 8.
