BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - State Police say a single vehicle crash has taken the life of a Baton Rouge man. The crash happened Sunday morning on LA Hwy 37 at Pride-Baywood Road around 7:45 am.
An investigation revealed that Lawrence Clay, 40, was traveling northbound on LA Hwy 37 when he entered a curve and ran off the road to the right. After his vehicle left the roadway, he entered a ditch and hit an embankment. The vehicle hit a tree before it came to rest upside down in the ditch.
Clay was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown whether driver impairment was a factor in the crash, police say excessive speed may have been the cause. Toxicology samples have been submitted for analysis.
