BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Former Gov. Edwin Edwards will be allowed to test for his real estate broker's license after a special committee approved his request Thursday morning.
Because Edwards is a convicted felon and had previously surrendered his broker's license, the Louisiana Real Estate Commission had to give him the green light to test for it again.
The 11-member committee approved Edwards' request in a 7-2 vote.
Edwards said he wants the license in order to be a part of growth happening around the state.
"It is continuing to develop and will continue to explode in development as years go by and I'd like to be a part of it," Edwards said. "So, I'll work with friends of mine who do architecture and engineering and development and having a broker's license will facilitate some of the things I would like to accomplish."
Edwards still has to pass a test to obtain the license.
