BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - BRPD was out in full force the past couple of weeks working the parades and other Mardi Gras events, but they also had numerous seatbelt checkpoints and impaired driving patrols set up throughout the city as part of the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
The campaign was funded through a grant by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Through these BRPD operations, officers conducted arrests or issued citations for violations over the course of the nine-day period from February 6-17, 2015 that included:
- 55 DWI Arrests
- 127 Child Restraint Violations
- 107 Safety Belt Violations
- 19 Other Misdemeanor/Felony Arrests
- 12 Speeding Violations
- 453 other violations found as a result of these patrols and/or checkpoints
