Seniors at Broadmoor High School received an up-close and personal lesson on how the judicial system works.
With the help of Louisiana State Police and representatives from the 19th Judicial District Court, students served on a jury in the fake trial of a classmate charged with vehicular homicide. Organizers said the mock trial helps students understand every action has real consequences.
"The main message we want to get across to them is that the consequences of that crash that student caused don't go away," said Tpr. Jared Sandifer with LSP. "There will be a trial. He will face some lifelong consequences for causing that crash, which killed one of his classmates."
The mock trial is an extension of the sudden impact injury prevention program hosted by Louisiana State Police and Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center.
