Man charged with 3rd DWI after crashing into stationary police car

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A Gonzales man has been charged with his third DWI after crashing into the back of a stationary police car.

A report says that a Louisiana State Police trooper was on the right side shoulder of I-10 Eastbound in Ascension Parish for stationary patrol when Christopher Morris, 46, tried to use the right side shoulder to pass another vehicle. As a result, Morris crashed into the back of the trooper's police car.

Reports say that the trooper received minor injuries, with Morris and the 13-year-old passenger in his car also receiving minor injuries. All three were transported to the St. Elizabeth Hospital for their injuries.

Morris was charged with 3rd offense DWI, two counts of vehicular negligent injuring, careless operation, driving under suspension, and open container violations.
