Baton Rouge Police create new Facebook page to connect with community

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Baton Rouge police is bring their mission to protect and serve into the 21st century with a new Facebook page.

The department launched a fresh Facebook page just a few weeks ago.

Cpl. L'jean McKneely says that the new Facebook page is a new way for the department to reach out to the community and get vital information to them.

"We know that social media is big a lot of the departments have been using social media for a number of years and we felt that it was time for us to get on board."

“The social media thing is allowing us to put some things that are out there. That are actually happening in the department that everyday folk may not know up.” Says Elizabeth Demopulos, “I think it's a great idea. A lot of people are on social media so if they know something if they need information it makes it easier for us, people to just send in tips and stuff”.

“It was kind of a surprise to think “they finally got one?” I would think that they would already have one.” Says Willis Spurlock, “A lot of stuff goes through social media now, so they can kind of keep their ear to the ground.”
