BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Krewe of Boyd Avenue is partying with a purpose this Saturday for the annual Spanish Town parade.

"We were all friends with Shelby Holmes," said Robert King.

"He was beautiful, he was enriching. he was fun to be with."

A little more than a year ago someone shot Shelby Holmes as he was walking home- his murder remains unsolved.

"Shelby would enlighten your day and made life wonderful, just a wonderful guy," King added.

The krewe put Shelby Holmes picture on their float hoping someone will eventually come forward with information to help his murder.

Another piece of Shelby Holmes will be riding in the parade as well.

Doug Cossman says he will carry a piece of Shelby with him forever- he received his kidney because Shelby was an organ donor.

"The fact that part of Shelby will be there- knowing how much it's going to mean to him how much he's going to be smiling down on us I think it's just going to be a beautiful day all the way around," Cossman said.

"He was one of the rare individuals in life that you get to meet that make you a better person for having known him."
