GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Sewer improvements are on the way to Gonzales thanks to a loan from the Department of Environmental Quality.
The loan will reportedly be up to $15 million. Officials made the announcement in front of the Gonzales City Hall on Thursday.
The city's financial director said DEQ's offer and interest rate of .95 percent was hard to pass up.
"You don't get 15 million dropped on you," said Clay Stafford, director of finance for the city of Gonzales. "You have to go out and do the project. Pay for work. Submit invoices to DEQ and then they reimburse you for the money."
City officials hope this assistance will help them free up city capital outlay funds to help the roads in Gonzales as well.
The city reportedly expects to pay back DEQ's loan in five to seven years.
