BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A sold out arena and an inspired, although unranked LSU team gave No. 1 Kentucky fits Tuesday night, but in the end, the Wildcats were able to escape 71-69 and remain unbeaten.
Jarell Martin led all scorers with 21 points. Keith Hornsby added 17 for the Tigers, while Jordan Mickey had 16.
Kentucky was led by Willie Cauley-Stein and his 15 points. Devin Booker came off the bench to score 14. Karl-Anthony Towns was a stat machine. He had 12 points, 13 rebounds two assists, two steals and two blocked shots.
Kentucky took to the court at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center for what appeared to be one of its trickier road tests of the season at LSU.
The Tigers, inconsistent throughout season, have demonstrated the potential to be very good on any given night.
LSU started out hot and took a 10-2 lead in the first three minutes of the contest. Kentucky pulled all five starters after the slow start.
The Wildcats clawed back and were able to hold on to the lead late to get the win.
