Teen dies from injuries sustained during major crash

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A teen has died from his injures sustained in a vehicle crash on February 3.

According to police, 17-year-old Khalil Hawkins died from injuries sustained during a two vehicle crash that occurred on LA 37 at Monticello Boulevard on Tuesday, February3.

Police say that an investigation revealed that 25-year-old Lawrence Bottoms was driving Northbound on LA Highway 37 while Hawkins was driving Westbound on Monticello Boulevard. According to the investigation, both drivers allegedly ignored traffic signals, and as a result, Hawkins was struck on the drivers side by Bottoms.

Hawkins died Saturday morning. Police say that they don't yet know if Hawkins had his seat belt on, or if any impairments could have influenced the crash.

Bottoms was initially cited for a traffic violation, but further charges may be pending following further investigation.
