LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) -

There is a new development into a widespread ATM skimming investigation.

Secret Service agents are looking for a man they has used counterfeit debit cards. Numbers were obtained through skimmers being placed at banks throughout Southeast Louisiana.

The individual has used counterfeit debit cards in Lafayette, LA, and possibly the Beaumont, TX, area.

Officials with Whitney Bank say additional ATM security has been initiated in Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida after a regional ATM scheme has caused the bank to reissue approximately 7,100 debit cards.

This scheme apparently relates to a broader scheme affecting financial institutions along the I-10 corridor.
