Burglary of off-duty police officer's house ends with shots fired

LABADIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) -

State police are asking for the public's help in investigating an incident where an off-duty police officer traded shots with a suspect during a home burglary.

Investigators say that the suspect tried to burglarize a Thibodaux police officer's home in Labadieville about 3 a.m. Saturday morning. According to police, the officer was at his home at the time of the burglary. The suspect fired at the off-duty officer with the officer returning fire at the suspect.

Police say that the would-be burglar fled into a nearby getaway car that drove off traveling south on LA 1 from the Labadieville area. The off-duty officer was not injured in the confrontation, and it is unclear if the suspect sustained any injuries from the shootout.
