BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Drivers were frustrated after a fatal wreck caused a traffic jam for nearly six hours on the Mississippi River Bridge.

Police say the accident involved two 18-wheelers and a motorcycle about 1 p.m. Friday. Authorities diverted drivers to the US-190 bridge. For hours during the day and well into the night, traffic was backed up and Howard Byars was stuck in it.

“I had to take the ferry and it took me three hours to get to the ferry to get my friend. We've been fighting traffic now for almost four hours,” said Byars.

Crews were steadily cleaning up debris from the crash, which was bad timing for Keith Henry who was heading back to Lafayette, LA.

“I would have been in Lafayette by now,” said Henry. “I've been in traffic for a while. I came this way to beat it, but I'm stuck.”

At 7:30 p.m., crews opened all lanes to the bridge back up.
