Authorities report heroin found at scene of deadly double shooting

DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - Detectives trying to solve a shooting that left two people dead said drugs were found at the scene.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office reported heroin was found inside the home of Chad Nichols, 37, of Donaldsonville. He was found dead in his yard. Benny Booker, 29, was found shot in the street. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

"Both Nichols and Booker may have been robbed during a drug deal gone bad," Chief Deputy Tony Bacala with APSO said in a written release.

Officials said the shooting happened Monday afternoon on Latino Street.

Authorities said Nichols' vehicle was stolen during the shooting and deputies are scanning surveillance video to see where the 2007 white Dodge Magnum may be.

This was the city's third shooting incident in less than a week. Last week, a teenager was shot in the face and a deputy was shot in the hand during a traffic stop.

If you have any information that can help investigators solve the double shooting case, you are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
