FRENCH SETTLEMENT, LA (WAFB) - One small community in south Louisiana is offering those with outstanding warrants an olive branch in the form of an amnesty program.
According to French Settlement Mayor's Court, hundreds of people with outstanding warrants are facing possible arrests.
In order to help clear up some of the backlog, officials are offering those with warrants until February 15 to pay the original amount of their fines and court costs, without being hit with additional fees or, even worse, getting arrested.
For those who think warrants are not that big of a deal, they are actually entered into a national database and could lead to an arrest outside the area, as well as a suspended license.
Persons wishing to pay their outstanding warrants may contact the French Settlement Town Hall at (225) 698-6100 during business hours Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. If the office is closed, leave a message and someone will return your call as soon as possible.
