CENTRAL, LA (WAFB) - Residents in Central, La. will soon be getting a new development. The Central mayor broke the news Tuesday during his annual State of Central address.
Mayor Junior Shelton says too many people are leaving Central for other opportunities, so they need more things to keep people in town.
He says thanks to a campaign by locals to shop Central first, the city's sales tax is up eight percent.
"It will bring about 700 housing units in Central. It will bring retail, it will bring commercial," said Mayor Shelton. He says it will be located on Sullivan Road.
The development will be built by the same builder as River Ranch in Lafayette.
Mayor Shelton says the city will also be celebrating their 10th year as a city in July.
