Amazing Kids: Zach Morgan

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

On the surface Zach Morgan may look like your average 10 year old. Zach loves all sports and is an honor roll student at his elementary school. But what makes Zach amazing is his desire to help others. Zach says it all started when he saw a commercial for St. Jude's Hospital. Zach saw the number of kids going through cancer treatment with no hair. That's when Zach's big idea first started.

Now a hat may not mean that much to you or me. But Zach says, "I saw they didn't have hair and I didn't want them to be made fun of". It was at that moment in January of 2013 8 year old Zach Morgan started his own charity Zach's Lidz for Kidz.

Zach, with the help of his mother, did his first hat drive at the local Walmart. Zach even appeared on 9 News This Morning to promote his efforts. The first hat drive collected 500 hats. To date Zach has donated 1,500 hats with the farthest going all the way to the children's hospital in Hawaii.

Zach received the Incredible Kid Award through the Children's Discovery Center Museum in Hammond, Louisiana. He also earned national attention when the Hasbro toy company honored Zach with its Community Action Hero Award in 2013. Zach remains a community ambassador for Hasbro and has donated over 900 toys through local charities.

So congratulations to Zach Morgan the WAFB and Our Lady of the Lake Amazing Kid for January. If you know of an amazing kid like Zach you can find nomination information by clicking here.
