HOLDEN, LA (WAFB) -

Louisiana State Fire Marshal investigators were called to the scene of a house fire Tuesday morning where a body was found inside.

Albany and Springfield firefighters responded to a home in the 29000 block of George White Road after a neighbor noticed flames coming from the house shortly before 10 a.m.

After firefighters got into the house, the body of a deceased man was found in the recliner portion of a sectional couch in the living room. Investigators believe the fire originated in the living room.

Officials say the body was burned beyond recognition, and formal identification was impossible.

The man's body was released to the Tangipahoa Parish coroner for an autopsy scheduled for later this week. The identity of the victim and cause of death will be determined at that time.

The investigation into the cause of the fire, which inflicted significant damage to the structure, is continuing. In addition, investigators were unable to determine whether the home was equipped with smoke alarms.

Persons with knowledge about this fire are encouraged to contact the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office at 1-800-256-5452.
