Crime Stoppers tip leads to man wanted in deadly grocery store parking lot shooting

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Authorities have made an arrest in connection with a deadly shooting in the parking lot of a grocery store thanks to a tip through Crime Stoppers.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Aljerard Warner, 22, of Brusly, was taken into custody in the shooting death of Derrell Haynes, 19, of Baton Rouge.

Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. with BRPD said the tip helped US Marshals Fugitive Task Force find the suspect Monday morning at a home in Baton Rouge.

Warner was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charge of first-degree murder.

According to investigators, Haynes was shot in the chest in the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly on Choctaw Drive on Dec. 23, 2014 during a drug deal. They added a friend drove him to an auto parts store and called police.

Officials said Haynes was transported to the hospital where he later died.
