BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - 51-year-old Zack Mathes is a longtime truck driver now off the road and living peacefully in what he says is normally a quiet neighborhood.
"There's not usually anybody out here. Everyday I usually walk this way to get my exercise," said Mathes.
Mathes walks Gracie St. daily, but it just so happens he missed his walk Saturday.
"I would have seen the body the day it happened. It's scary to think that somebody was killed here. It's just a terrible thing," said Mathes.
Saturday is when police found a 30-year-old woman's body here, dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
"It could have been that the young lady was at the wrong place at the wrong time," said Mathes.
The body was found around 12:20 p.m. Police believe she was shot sometime Friday night.
In the wake of this tragedy, Mathes wants to see an increased police presence in his neighborhood.
"It's just a terrible thing that happened. This place, it needs to be patrolled more often," said Mathes.
Meantime, just hours later Saturday, investigators found a second body a few blocks north in a field at Plank Rd. and Scenic Highway.
Police say the 59-year-old homeless man died of natural causes.
