BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Despite efforts from Redemptorist supporters, the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge announced that it is moving ahead with the plan to close the school.
In a statement, the Diocese thanks alumni and parents who sent letters of support along with ideas of saving the school.
After meeting with a number of Diocese boards to discuss different avenues to keep the school open, Bishop Robert Muench decided to follow through with the original plan to close the school in June.
"After carefully considering the plan, all three entities unanimously recommended that the decision to close RHS should not be rescinded." said the release, "In the collective judgment of these three groups, the plan did not assure the long-term viability of the school in demonstrable, measurable, and compelling ways."
The diocese announced in December it would close Redemptorist High and Junior High due to declining enrollment at the end of the school year.
