DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -

Livingston Parish Sheriff's deputies arrested the principal of a Denham Springs school and his wife for allegedly bringing an unloaded handgun on school grounds.

Frank Mons, 46, and his wife Caroline Mons, 47, were charged with carrying a firearm by a student or non-student on school property. Frank Mons is the principal of Amite Christian Academy in Denham Springs.

Deputies say that Frank Mons admitted to bringing the gun to school to put in his desk on December 15, 2014, but he said that he was not doing so under any reason related to his work. His wife was seen allegedly carrying a similar firearm the very next day.

They were both arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail with a bond of $25,000.
