Police say man suspected of using synthetic marijuana may have caused crash that killed him

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Police said the man badly injured in a crash, which is believed to have been caused by him while he was allegedly under the influence of drugs, died from his injuries Thursday.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Ryan Earhart, 22, of Lake Charles, was a passenger injured in a single-vehicle crash on North Boulevard on January 10.

Investigators said Earhart grabbed the steering wheel while a woman was driving the 2012 Honda Accord, causing her to lose control.

They suspect the use of synthetic marijuana may have been a factor in the crash. They added the car went off the road, hit two curbs and slammed into a building.

The 24-year-old woman who was driving the car was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her condition was not given.

The investigation is ongoing.
