Sorrento settles lawsuit with police chief over back pay

SORRENTO, LA (WAFB) - A settlement in a small Louisiana town over a lawsuit filed by the sitting police chief.

Chief Fern Barnett of Sorrento was suing the town, the council and Mayor Mike Lambert over back pay she claimed she was owed from October.

The mayor broke a tie at Tuesday night's council meeting to approve the move.

Barnett agreed to resign in exchange for her monthly salary of $2,800 from October to March 21.

If she is paid by the end of that contract, she will resign and the lawsuit will be dismissed.

A hearing has been set for February 17 to amend the town budget to pay Barnett.
