BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Friends of an artist who died more than a week ago have announced a memorial service will be held to celebrate his life and work.
Taufeeq Muhammad died on January 9. He was 39 years old.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge on Laurel Street.
Muhammad worked with the Kress Gallery and his alma mater, Southern University, to bring art to the Capital City.
He was born in Decatur, Illinois, but raised in Dallas, which is where his development as an artist began at a young age.
His works have been exhibited in galleries, festivals and conventions in Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta, New York and Washington, DC.
