Officials: Man who fired shots at police after car chase arrested

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - According to the BRPD, the man accused of shooting at police after leading officers on a chase has been arrested.

The Baton Rouge Police Department announced on Tuesday that they have arrested Miketrez Jones, 22,  on several charges including aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a firearm, and resisting a police officer by force or violence.

On Saturday, January 17, police tried to make a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Plank Road. The car, driven by Jacob Washington, 21, with Jones in the passenger seat, sped away from officers, leading them on a chase that ended in a crash while attempting to turn on Bellvale Avenue.

According to police, after the chase, Jones allegedly got out of the vehicle and fired a single shot at the officers as he fled on foot.

Officers arrested Washington, and are adding

principal to aggravated assault upon a peace officer with a firearm, principal to resisting a police officer by force or violence and obstruction of justice to his charges.
