DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Denham Springs residents are gearing up for the grand opening of a new grocery store.

Rouses Market will be opening to the public on January 21 at 7:30 a.m. The store will be located at 10130 Crossing Way at Juban Crossing. This Rouses will also include a drive-thru grocery line.

This will be the first Rouses in the metro area. Several stores have popped up as part of a major development project that has seen an Academy Sports, Bed Bath and Beyond, Old Navy and Belk store open for business in the last six months.

    Several groups advocating for the interests of educators and "Together Baton Rouge" gathered outside of a School Board meeting Thursday to publicly request a meeting with the CEO of ExxonMobil, hopeful they'd be able to persuade him to withdraw a request that would exempt Exxon from paying school property taxes on more than 150 million dollars of the company's property.
