BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The National Day of Service for MLK saw hundreds of Baton Rouge residents swing into service. Six different community groups converged on the historic Lincoln Theater, once the black community's theater at its height.

Groups like ExxonMobil, McKinley High Key Club, City Year, and Mid-City Redevelopment all came to help.

"We're painting part of the auditorium. We're painting parts of the behind the stage dressing rooms. We're organizing the exhibit room. And we're cleaning out the basement of the Lincoln Theater," said Brenda Perry Dunn, La. Black History Hall of Fame organization.

The Louisiana Black Hall of Fame Organization has re-roofed the building, removed all of the lead pipes and asbestos, and will soon start replacing any shabby walls, and add flooring, to eventually make the Lincoln Theater a community center.
