Suspect still at large after pointing a gun at police

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police are still searching for a suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at police after leading officers on a chase on Plank Road.

Baton Rouge Police said officers tried to stop a car for a traffic violation on Plank Road, but 21-year old Jacob Washington, the man police said was behind the wheel, refused to stop.

Detectives said that instead of stopping, Washington drove off, leading them on a chase that ended with Washington crashing on Bellvale Avenue. Police said things escalated from there.

"The passenger gets out and points a fire arm at the officers, which the officers react with firing a shot at the passenger," said BRPD Cpl. Don Coppola.

Coppola said the passenger then took off on foot. Authorities searched the area, but the passenger was not found.

Authorities said the suspect who was in the passenger seat, is still at large. Washington was booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and faces charges of aggravated flight from an officer, disobedience to a traffic control device, stop sign violation and careless operation of a motor vehicle.
