BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - East Baton Rouge Parish deputies arrested two 14-year-olds, an electronics store owner, and are currently looking for a second adult in the theft of more than $14,000 worth of smart phones.
On January 4, the suspects in this case allegedly entered the Wal-Mart on Sullivan Road and forced their way into a locked electronics case. The two juveniles, now arrested on theft charges, allegedly gave the stolen phones to a relative, Latarsha Dennis, 36, who detectives say then sold them to Gardere Communications, an electronics store on Gardere Lane.
Upon acquiring a search warrant, deputies were able to locate the stolen phones at Gardere Communications. The owner of the store, Safwan Abukahla, 29, was arrested on charges of illegal possession of stolen things.
Detectives currently have a warrant out for the arrest of Latarsha Dennis for principle to theft and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
The East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office believes that Dennis and the 14-year-olds have committed similar crimes over several parishes. Additional charges from other parish agencies may be pending.
