BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - With oil prices continuing to fall, state lawmakers will have to come together in the coming months to address a growing budget deficit. Some estimates say the deficit for the upcoming year can go as high as $1 billion dollars.
Lawmakers are concerned that previous cuts will leave the state no choice but to consider more cuts to higher education and want to see a better plan for plugging the budget.
‘There will be a big impact on Southern University, University of Louisiana, and the Louisiana LCTCS which is the college of technical schools," Sen. Conrad Appel. "A total perhaps as many as 16 institutions."
