SATSUMA, LA (WAFB) - Dozens of people gathered in Satsuma to voice their concerns and reasons why they believe the area shouldn't be incorporated.
The idea of incorporation of Satsuma came about when plans were unveiled to place a small airport in that area of Livingston Parish. Some residents were opposed to the idea and were told to stop that from happening. Satsuma needed to be a city. At a meeting, developers, business owners, and residents gave reasons why incorporating Satsuma isn't a good idea.
"It's absolutely ridiculous to incorporate 3,000 to 4,000 acres into a community,” said Satsuma business owner Marvin Henderson. "They have no plan of government and even if they have a plan, they have no way of financing it or supporting it."
HL Arledge who is a part of "Save Satsuma" an organization in favor of incorporation sent this statement.
"The opposition is unhappy that we've included the area of the proposed airport, but how else can we regulate the noise and safety concerns it will bring to our community?"
A vote for the incorporation of Satsuma will be held on March 28.
