BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A day after Kevin Steele was hired as the new defensive coordinator for LSU, Ed Orgeron was named defensive line coach for the Tigers. During a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Coach Les Miles welcomed the duo and introduced them to the Tiger nation.
During his opening remarks, Miles said Kevin Steele was a "very quality coach," and he has wanted to hire Steele for some time now.
Steele greeted the media and stated he was excited to work for LSU because of the style of plays and what LSU stands for. When asked about working with Orgeron, he said "his resume speaks for itself."
Orgeron spoke to the media and said "This is the school I've wanted to come to, and I didn't know if it would happen." He also said he came to represent LSU and be one team, and one heartbeat.
Coach Miles believes both men will have a great impact on the team and defense, and all three are ready to go out and recruit for LSU.
Miles said Brick Hayley, the former defensive line coach, is being reassigned within the LSU Athletic Department. "[Hayley] is valued and respected. He is currently an intern for [LSU], and we encourage him."
Les Miles finished the news conference by answering questions from the media. He noted he locked Ed Orgeron in around 5 p.m. Tuesday, but only after chasing him around several times. He said the process of hiring Steele and Orgeron took a long time, and because these two are motivated, it put the Tigers in the position of having an excellent recruiting staff, and the best position to have success.
