BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused a fire that destroyed a home and killed a family pet Tuesday night.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported it happened on Sharp Road between Florida Boulevard and Old Hammond Highway around 8:30 p.m.
Mark Miles with BRFD said firefighters arrived at the home to find it already engulfed in flames.
He added the homeowner told firefighters she awoke to a popping noise and saw that the house was on fire.
According to Miles, the woman made it out safely, but her cat did not. The house is considered a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.
