ROBERT, LA (WAFB) - Authorities said a driver was killed after losing control of a sport utility vehicle that went off the road and hit a tree Sunday night.
Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Bridget Rodriguez, 40, of Mandeville.
Troopers said the crash happened on LA 445 just north of US 190 in Robert a little before 9 p.m.
Tpr. Greg Marchand with LSP said the preliminary investigation showed Rodriguez was headed north on LA 445 in a 2001 Toyota Sequoia when the SUV went off the road and flipped.
He stated she was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown out of the SUV during the accident. He added she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's Office.
According to Marchand, although impairment is not suspected, a sample of Rodriguez's blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This is standard procedure for all crashes on Louisiana highways.
The investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
