BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An elderly man is facing an attempted murder charge after he allegedly tried to set his mistress on fire because she "told his wife the two had been having an affair."
The Baton Rouge Police Department reported Carlos Garrido, 79, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a charge of attempted second-degree murder Saturday. His bond was set at $75,000.
Investigators said Garrido is accused of pouring a flammable liquid on the woman and trying to set her on fire using a lighter. According to the probable cause report, she was able to get away and have someone call police.
"The victim told his wife the two had been having an affair for several years," the report stated. "And advised that was the reason he was trying to kill her."
A trial date has not been set.
