BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The hottest job in town, literally, will only be accepting applications, as the deadline to apply to be a Baton Rouge firefighter in 2015 is Tuesday.
The academy starts this summer and the department is looking to hire about 20 new recruits. From hazmat to arson investigators and fire prevention inspectors, there are all sorts of positions available.
Chief Ed Smith said it's not just a job, but a career with a close-knit family.
"Majority of our people stay 30 years, they make a career out of it," Smith said. "We have very few attrition through the years other than retirements and that's something that we try to make sure everyone understands. It's a career that you can take and stay with us for 30 years."
The department is hosting a recruitment day on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. It is happening at the headquarters on Harding Boulevard near the airport.
