Driver dies after car collides head-on with 18-wheeler

BAKER, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators said one person was killed when a car collided head-on with an 18-wheeler Thursday afternoon.

Louisiana State Police identified the victim as Jeffrey Blackwell, 25, of Baton Rouge. Troopers reported the crash happened on Plank Road north of Groom Road in Baker just before 4:30 p.m.

Tpr. Jared Sandifer with LSP said the investigation showed Blackwell was driving a 2003 Honda Accord northbound on Plank and crossed the center line into the path of a 2014 Kentwood tractor trailer.

He added Blackwell was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck and died at the scene. The driver of the big rig was not injured.

Troopers said it is not believed the trucker was impaired at the time. They added it is not known whether Blackwell was impaired and a sample of his blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
