14-year-old hit by vehicle while walking to school, critically injured

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police say a 14-year-old was hit by a vehicle around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 4700 block of North Foster and Evangeline.

Police say it appears a woman had vehicle issues and she lost control and the child was struck.

"The student was walking to a bus stop this morning when he was hit by a vehicle," said Keith Bromery with the East Baton Rouge Parish school System. "District crisis counselors are currently at the school to assist students and stuff who may be impacted by this event. They will stay at the school for as long as they are needed."

The child was taken to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

The identity of the driver and the child has not been released at this time.
