BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - LSU coach Johnny Jones touted his team's toughest schedule in the SEC heading into Thursday night's league opener against Missouri on Tuesday.
The Tigers have an 11-2 start and No. 3 RPI in the SEC going into conference play. After 19 and 20 win seasons, and with the play of SEC scoring leader Jarell Martin averaging 18 a game as a sophomore, Tiger fans are anticipating what kind of contender LSU could be in the coach's third season.
"A year ago people were trying to figure out was he really that good? Was he really a Top 10 player?" said LSU head coach Johnny Jones about Martin. "Last year he was not only going through an injury, but we were trying to play him in two different positions. Which is really difficult to learn because they're really opposites. When you're talking about playing the 3 (position) which is the perimeter and playing the 4 (position) which is the post guy. Now, he's not having to think about it. He reacts. He just plays. He's leading our league in scoring."
Thursday's game is at 6 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2 as well as broadcast on the LSU Sports Radio Network. Missouri (6-7) is the only SEC team with a losing record.
