With with extremely cold temperatures on their way to the area, the Baton Rouge Salvation Army will have extended hours beginning Monday night.

The shelter doors open at 2 p.m. and will be allowed to stay until 9 a.m. the next morning.

"Currently, we have 20 overnight beds in our emergency shelter, but with the freezing conditions, no one who needs a warm place to spend the night will be turned away," said Captain Meredith.

Freezing temperatures are also expected through the week across the Baton Rouge area.

"We are here to help those in need during these kinds of life threatening conditions. We will do everything we can to make sure those who have nowhere else to stay don't have to," said Captain Meredith.
